TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Samsung Foundry customers could be turning to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) for chip production, according to ZDNet.
Among the customers are DeepX, FuriosaAI, and Mobilint. ZDNet said the companies are reportedly shifting to TSMC to improve performance and reduce risks.
DeepX will reportedly use TSMC's 12nm (nanometer) process for its newly developed chip DX-V3 SoC (system on chip) this year. Previously, the company’s DX-M1 and DX-H1 were produced using Samsung’s 5nm foundry process.
FuriosaAI used Samsung’s 14nm process for its first-generation chip, Warboy, for advanced computer vision deployment. However, its next-gen processor Renegade (RNGD), slated for release in Q4, could use TSMC’s 5nm process.
Meanwhile, TSMC’s quote for wafers using 2nm technology could exceed US$30,000 (NT$960,000) according to industry sources, per China Times.
