TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The 2024 Taiwan Cycling Festival flagship event “Formosa 900" started on Saturday (Oct. 5) in Taipei.
The annual event attracted over 1,200 cyclists, including 29% from abroad, per CNA. Four teams gathered in Taipei to embark on a three-day, two-night exploratory ride on electronic bikes in Hsinchu and Miaoli.
The trip will conclude with a cycling industry forum to share insights into product development, sustainability, and cycling culture. It aims to strengthen Taiwan's position in the global cycling market.
Influencers from Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Thailand, and Taiwan are cycling to Wuling. Thai influencer Nattha Klongklaew, who participated in Taiwan’s 2017 KOM (King of Mountain) Challenge, is returning to inspire more women to explore cycling.
The Taiwan KOM Challenge is one of the toughest one-day cycling challenges in the world. It is a 105 km race that starts at sea level and climbs continuously to Taiwan's highest road pass at 3,275 m, per Taiwan KOM.
In addition, a Japanese cycling team is attempting to cycle around Taiwan. A local Taipei cycling team also joined the event.
Tourism Bureau Director-General Chou Yung-hui (周永暉) said the Taiwan Cycling Tourism Festival seeks to promote cycling tourism in Taiwan.
