TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — An attack occurred in New Taipei Thursday (Oct. 3) night when a man injured a passerby with a Rambo knife, causing lacerations to the victim's chin and neck.
The alleged assailant, surnamed Tseng (曾), was arrested and taken to the police station for questioning. The victim was taken to Taipei Hospital for medical treatment and has since been released, per CNA.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the victim, a 48-year-old man surnamed Pan (潘), was attacked by Tseng while smoking on the sidewalk. Pan had just finished eating hot pot with his girlfriend and was returning home.
Tseng and Pan were not acquainted, police said. Tseng is believed to have been mentally unstable at the time of the attack due to drug influence.
About to leave on his scooter, Tseng noticed Pan smoking on the sidewalk near a store. A glance from Pan ignited Tseng's anger, leading to a knife attack.
The Rambo knife originated from the movie “First Blood.” It is a variation of the Bowie knife, with an additional serrated edge on its spine, according to Strengthen Yourself.
The Bowie knife is named after James Bowie, a prominent figure in the American colonial era.
