TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan opened its first tourism information center in Canada near the city of Vancouver on Wednesday (Oct. 2).
The Tourism Administration said that since the number of visitors from Canada already exceeded the level reached before the COVID-19 pandemic, the launch of the new office would help start an even larger movement of travelers, per CNA.
In 2023, Taiwan welcomed 40,000 visitors from Canada, but during the first half of 2024, 60,000 Canadians had already made the trip, according to officials. If the total for this year reaches 120,000, that would be more than during the pre-COVID year of 2019.
The new tourism information office is located in the city of Richmond near a rapid transit station and a shopping mall. The Vancouver center is the latest in a series of new Taiwan travel centers following Mumbai, Jakarta, and Paris.
The country’s current tourism slogan, “Taiwan – Waves of Wonder,” was visible in Vancouver’s rapid transit system. China Airlines and EVA Air were providing support by offering tickets to Taiwan in a drawing, officials said.
