TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – The international art fair, Art Taipei, and the inaugural Taipei Art Week are coming this October.
Art Taipei 2024, in its 31st year, will bring together 123 galleries from eight countries, including 73 domestic and 50 international galleries. Blue-chip galleries like Perrotin and Scai the Bathhouse are also returning.
Additionally, curated by the Czech Center Taipei and the Czech Economic and Cultural Office, a special exhibition titled "Czech Stories" will feature works by five artists. The centerpiece is Jan Kadlec's 10-meter-long installation, "Copy," which explores whether art still reflects reality positively.
Marketa Vankova, known for exploring the subconscious through art, will present her recent paintings created using cooked spaghetti. These works, seen as a personal diary, originate from her decade-long life in Sicily.
Jan Kalab, a Czech graffiti pioneer will showcase large-scale geometric paintings with a strong experimental style. His works have been collected by the National Museum of the Czech Republic and Slovakia, Dior, and Tiffany.
Art Taipei will go fully digital for the first time, reducing the need for 22,800 plastic VIP cards and 8,400 kg of printed publications, resulting in a carbon emission reduction of over 160 tons.
Coinciding with Taipei's 140th anniversary, the inaugural Taipei Art Week, themed "In Bloom," will connect 70 galleries in Taipei, including Ting Ting Art Space, Eslite Gallery, and Hiro Hiro Art Space. The event will also feature 28 public art installations throughout the city, allowing visitors to interact with art in unexpected places.
Additionally, Kathryn Weir, former Director of the Cultural Development Department at Centre Pompidou in Paris, will participate in an international forum.
The Taiwan Art Gallery Association organized both Art Taipei and Taipei Art Week. Art Taipei will be held from Oct. 25 to 28 at the Taipei World Trade Center, while Taipei Art Week will run from Oct. 19 to 31.
