TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Meteorologist Lin Te-en (林得恩) forecasted Tropical Storm Krathon (山陀兒) will form over the weekend and have the biggest impact on Taiwan from Monday to Wednesday (Sept. 30 - Oct. 2).
Lin, head of National Taiwan University's Center for Weather and Climate Disaster Research, said on Facebook Tropical Depression 21 will be named Jebi (燕子) and Tropical Depression 22 Krathon. Jebi is not expected to directly impact Taiwan.
He said Krathon could form on Saturday morning and Taiwan is within its cone of uncertainty. It is expected to reach at least the strength of a moderate tropical storm with a 150 km radius.
Lin added that since its location is close to Taiwan, there is a chance that a sea warning will be issued once it develops into a tropical storm.
It is estimated that the most significant wind and rain will occur from Monday to Wednesday, and the tropical storm will gradually move away after Thursday.
