TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Hondao Senior Citizens Welfare Foundation hosted the fourth Journalist Impact Award ceremony, where it honored Taipei Fubon Bank for its support of media coverage for stories about Taiwan's senior population.
Taipei Fubon Bank Senior VP Kelly Kuo (郭佳綾) went onstage to accept the honor on July 19. She said the bank supports high-quality media reporting in Taiwan, especially on issues affecting senior citizens. Through such reporting, Kuo said the public can gain a better understanding of social issues affecting the elderly community.
The Journalist Impact Award is in its fourth year and received hundreds of submissions from local media. According to Hondao Senior Citizens Welfare Foundation Chair Wang Nai-hung (王乃弘), 340 entries were received this year, nearly double that of previous years.
Wang said that many entries came from local news stations and involved stories of senior citizens adapting to challenges. Wang thanked Taipei Fubon Bank and the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy for their support of the Journalist Impact Award.

Wang said Taiwan's aging society will require more institutions and groups to care for the elderly. Wang said groups should come together to promote policies for an environment that is friendly to senior citizens.
In response, Taipei Fubon Bank has attached great importance to age-friendly financial issues. In recent years, they have promoted products that meet the needs of the elderly, and “senior citizen counters” were established at its 179 branches.
In addition, graphics were designed for senior citizens to understand complex financial products, allowing them to protect their rights. Bank staff were trained in providing friendly service to elderly people prone to dementia and other age-related disabilities.
In addition, Taipei Fubon Bank and Hondao Senior Citizens Welfare Foundation designed a board game to teach senior citizens about fraud prevention. From January to June, 1,023 seniors played the game, and a tournament is set for this year.
Taipei Fubon Bank said it will remain committed to offering friendly services to Taiwan’s elderly population.
