TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of National Defense (MND) said it tracked a Chinese aircraft carrier group sailing through waters northeast of Taiwan toward Japan’s Yonaguni Island on Wednesday (Sept. 18).
The MND said the Liaoning carrier group was spotted at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday heading through Taiwan’s northeast waters. The Chinese vessels continued sailing to the southeast of Yonaguni, according to the MND.
Taiwan’s military said it tracked the Chinese movements and sent aircraft and ships to monitor the situation.
So far this month, Taiwan has tracked 260 Chinese military aircraft and 141 vessels operating around the nation.
