TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tropical Storm Pulasan is predicted to follow a similar path to Tropical Storm Bebinca missing Taiwan, but could shift south leading to a sea warning off the north coast later in the week.
As of 2 a.m. Monday (Sept. 16), Pulasan was located 2,650 km east-southeast of Eluanbi heading north-northwest, reported the Central Weather Administration (CWA). Pulasan is predicted to come closest to Taiwan on Thursday.
Meteorologist Lin Te-en (林得恩), head of National Taiwan University's Center for Weather and Climate Disaster Research, said Pulasan's projected path is similar to Bebinca's. It is expected to pass through Naha, Okinawa, on Wednesday and make landfall in central China on Friday.
Lin said Pulasan's intensity is expected to be mild. Lin described it as a September tropical storm that is small but well-formed, fast-moving and has a clear direction.
Lin said while Pulasan is not expected to directly impact Taiwan, if the path shifts 200 to 300 km south or if the storm's radius expands beyond 150 km, it could reach the offshore waters of northern Taiwan.
