TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Rapid transit companies in Taipei and Taoyuan are cooperating with Japan’s Keisei Electric Railway Co., Ltd. to issue a joint discount ticket which can be used in north Taiwan and in the Tokyo region, reports said Thursday (Sept. 12).
Keisei serves areas including Tokyo, Narita with its international airport, and Chiba Prefecture. The fare cuts of up to 7% are likely to benefit frequent travelers between the two countries, per CNA.
Taoyuan Metro Corporation first signed a cooperation agreement with Keisei in 2018. Under the latest program, Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation (TRTC) joined in to launch the new tickets, which can be purchased in Taiwan before travelers set out for Japan.
One formula includes a trip on Taiwan’s airport mass rapid transit (MRT) train and one ticket for the Keisei Skyliner between Narita and downtown Tokyo for 2,780 yen (NT$626). A second formula adds a Tokyo subway ticket valid for 24, 48, or 72 hours, costing a total of between 3,580 yen and 4,280 yen.
In Japan, travelers can buy a package including one Keisei Skyliner ticket, one Taipei MRT ticket valid for 72 hours, and one return ticket for the airport MRT priced at a total of 4,830 yen.
After booking a ticket, travelers will receive a QR code to obtain the ticket at a given station. All tickets have to be obtained by Aug. 31, 2025, and the one-way tickets have to be used within 90 days after receiving them, according to Taoyuan Metro.
