TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Uber launched its “teen edition” of the ride-sharing app on Wednesday (Sept. 11), allowing teenagers to request rides through family accounts.
Teenagers aged 13 to 17 can call rides through the app after their parent or guardian invites them to join their family account, per CNA. Parents can track their kids’ live location throughout the journey for greater peace of mind.
The new function allows busy parents flexibility in ensuring their kids safely arrive on time to classes and extracurricular activities, Uber said in a press release.
In Taiwan, over 70% of parents drive their children to and from school at least three days per week. Over 50% of parents reported challenges in picking up and dropping off their children due to work and other commitments.
Uber’s “teen edition” will be rolled out in all cities and counties where the company is active in Taiwan. This includes Taipei, New Taipei, Taoyuan, Keelung, Yilan, Hsinchu, Taichung, Changhua, Nantou, Kaohsiung, Tainan, and Pingtung.
