TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – A Thai woman and a Hong Kong airport worker in transit at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport had hidden 45.3 kilograms of marijuana in their luggage, reports said Wednesday (Sept. 11).
The find dated back to April when the man, surnamed Chan (陳), and the woman were flying from Thailand to Hong Kong together with a transit stop in Taiwan, per CNA. The Aviation Police Bureau discovered the category 2 narcotic in their luggage and handed the case over to the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office for further investigation.
During questioning, Chan, 24, first claimed he had been set up by a male friend who had invited him to travel to Thailand. The friend allegedly asked him to take back two extra suitcases to share with the Thai woman, aged 62.
Chan refused to reveal the identity of his supposed friend. Both the Hong Kong airline employee and the Thai woman were charged with breaking anti-drug legislation, the Aviation Police Bureau said.
