TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan will assist Thailand with its digital and zero emission transformation, Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) said Tuesday (Sept. 10).
The two countries will develop a win-win formula for cooperation, Lin told a conference in Bangkok in a prerecorded message. The export of positive business practices will show that Taiwan can help other countries to register progress, he said.
Lin said he promoted the formation of a smart city business alliance between the two countries after visiting Bangkok in September last year, the Liberty Times reported. A smart city exhibition in Taipei in March welcomed 400 visitors from Thai government departments and businesses, showing a high degree of interest in cooperation, he said.
Taiwan is already helping Thailand with an electronic toll collection system on a Bangkok highway and with a smart healthcare project at a hospital in Thonburi.
Lin also mentioned an interest in the Thai government’s promotion of foreign investment in the Eastern Economic Corridor, a region southeast of Bangkok. Economic diplomacy involving talent, funds, and technology is a key element of Taiwan’s new diplomacy, he said.
