TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Swedish air filter manufacturer Camfil inaugurated its new factory in Chiayi’s Machouhou Industrial Park on Tuesday (Sept. 10).
According to a Tuesday company press release, the factory spans 10,000 square meters and is expected to create 300 jobs. The plant will produce filtration equipment for semiconductor cleanrooms in Southern Taiwan Science Park and Chiayi Science Park, per CNA.
“We chose Chiayi for its strategic advantages, the proximity to our major semiconductor customers allows us to collaborate more effectively and closely,” Camfil CEO Mark Simmons said at the opening ceremony.
Camfil Taiwan Managing Director James Lin (林清均) said the company established a fab in Tainan in 2013 which has served semiconductor manufacturers for 20 years. He said he believes under Chiayi Magistrate Weng Chang-liang’s (翁章梁) leadership Chiayi County will become indispensable to the semiconductor industry in the next decade.
Funded by the company’s Taiwanese subsidiary with an investment of NT$500 million (US$15.5 million), the plant is set to become the world’s largest chemical filter regeneration plant, per Liberty Times. The plant will also use recycled materials to replace single-use chemical filters.
Headquartered in Stockholm, Camfil has over 30 manufacturing sites worldwide and boasts 5,600 employees.
