TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A Kaohsiung bridal shop suffered an estimated NT$200 million (US$6.22 million) in losses after a fire on Tuesday (Sept. 10).
At 2:52 p.m., the Kaohsiung City Fire Department received the report about the fire on Linsen 1st Road in Xinxing District, per CNA. They dispatched 32 vehicles and 95 personnel to the scene.
Firefighters used an aerial ladder truck to spray water from above and monitor the fire to prevent it from spreading. The fire was put out by 3:52 p.m., with no injuries or people trapped.
The fire department said the fire spread rapidly throughout the building due to the store’s interior decoration and the flammable wedding dresses. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The wedding dress company owner surnamed Chien (錢) told the media that the business has been running for 17 years, and Tuesday was a day off. The accountant had just returned from the bank and saw smoke from the fourth floor.
The accountant tried to grab a fire extinguisher, but the fire was already too large.
Chien said the second and third floors had more than 5,000 dresses, while the fourth was a wedding photography studio. The initial damage estimate was more than NT$200 million.
