Mirage fighter pilot Captain Hsieh (謝) has been located and is being transferred for further care, according to the Air Force. The pilot’s safety has been confirmed.
Hsieh is conscious. A task force will be established to investigate the cause of the incident.
TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A Mirage 2000 fighter jet crashed off the coast of Taiwan during a nighttime training mission Tuesday (Sept. 10), the Air Force said.
The pilot ejected safely but remains missing. Rescue forces have been dispatched to search the area, per CNA.
The single-seat fighter jet from the Second Tactical Fighter Wing lost power during the training mission. Defense Minister Koo Li-hsiung (顧立雄) ordered all available sea and air forces to conduct a full-scale search.
Koo said he hopes to locate the pilot as soon as possible and determine the cause of the accident.
