TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A traffic accident involving 16 vehicles in a Taoyuan tunnel on Tuesday morning (Sept. 10) led to a traffic jam on a northbound section of National Freeway 3.
At 8:22 a.m., a multiple-vehicle collision was reported in the Puding Tunnel near Taoyuan's Daxi District at the 60-kilometer mark, per UDN. The pileup involved 12 cars, two large trucks, and two small trucks.
The accident blocked three of the tunnel’s lanes, leaving only one outer lane open for slow traffic, resulting in a long traffic jam, according to UDN.
Police said the accident in the tunnel caused traffic to back up at least three km northbound starting from the Daxi interchange. Drivers were advised to take alternate routes.
No injuries have been reported, and the exact cause of the accident is still under investigation.
