TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Police and public transport were making preparations Saturday (Sept. 7) to welcome 100,000 fans expected at two concerts by pop star Bruno Mars.
The singer-songwriter had first scheduled one concert for Sunday (Sept. 8), but popular demand led him to add another one on Saturday. Both concerts are taking place at Kaohsiung National Stadium.
Preparations for the events included the mobilization of 200 police officers to facilitate traffic in the area. From 5 p.m. Saturday, the Kaohsiung Mass Rapid Transit system noted a marked uptick in traffic, per CNA.
The MRT company also prepared 100 staff to help manage the flow of passengers to and from the stadium. Several passages, sidewalks, and roads would be closed off for hours before and after the concerts, while extra shuttle bus services will be provided.
While officially, only Kaohsiung was to see full concerts by Mars, the Taipei City nightclub Kor was advertising an after party on Instagram. The star was going to appear at the club and host the event Monday (Sept. 9) at 9 p.m., the Instagram post said.
The singer’s visit to Taiwan came as a new duet with Lady Gaga, “Die With A Smile,” reached the top of the Billboard Global 200 charts. Kaohsiung is also set to host concerts by Take That and Charlie Puth later in the year.
