TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – National Security Bureau (NSB) Director-General Tsai Ming-yen (蔡明彥) held meetings with his counterparts in Latin America and visited Paraguay President Santiago Pena Palacios, reports said Saturday (Sept. 7).
Tsai met with the intelligence chiefs of nine diplomatic allies in the Caribbean and Latin America, and signed a joint memorandum of understanding to intensify cooperation and training, Radio Taiwan International reported.
Taiwan’s top intelligence official briefed his counterparts on China’s efforts to interfere with January’s presidential and legislative elections, and on Taiwan’s way of handling the pressure. The regional chiefs in turn detailed the threats and interference they were facing.
During his stay in Paraguay, Tsai also visited President Pena and handed him a letter from President Lai Ching-te (賴清德). Pena posted several pictures from the meeting on the presidential X account, adding he and Tsai had exchanged views on important bilateral issues.
