TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Heavy rain from Typhoon Yagi caused flooding in Tainan on Thursday (Sept. 5), leading to the closure of two underpasses.
Due to the influence of the typhoon Tainan was affected by thunderstorms in the early afternoon, per CNA. Water levels reached 20 cm and the Xiaodong and Datong underpasses were closed. The culvert at Zhongzheng Road in Yongkang District was also shut.
According to the Central Weather Administration (CWA), significant rainfall began in Tainan around 1 p.m., with the highest hourly rainfall recorded at 6.25 cm in Yongkang District.
Social media platforms were inundated with videos and photos of the flooding. Many people expressed frustration with power outages.
