TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A Thai woman was indicted recently for attempting to smuggle heroin into Taiwan, the Aviation Police Bureau (APB) said Tuesday (Sept. 3).
The 20-year-old woman was lured by a payment of approximately NT$93,700 (US$2,900) to transport the heroin by an overseas drug syndicate. She had claimed to be on a group tour and sewn a secret compartment into her handbag to conceal the heroin, per CNA.
Aviation police and Taipei Customs intercepted the suspect on May 18. Authorities discovered 803 grams of heroin, a category one narcotic, with a street value of over NT$4 million.
The woman was transferred to the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office for prosecution under the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act.
