TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Typhoon Yagi's (摩羯) outer circulation will bring hot weather to western Taiwan and sporadic showers to various regions.
As of 2 a.m., Typhoon Yagi was located 450 km southwest of Eluanbi heading west-northwest at 10 km/h with 118 km/h sustained winds and gusts up to 154 km/h, reported the Central Weather Administration (CWA).
The CWA forecasted daytime temperatures across the country will range from 33 C to 35 C, with some areas reaching 36 C. The leeward side of the north may experience highs exceeding 38 C.
The CWA has issued orange heat alerts for Hsinchu, Hsinchu County, New Taipei, and Tainan. The CWA said highs in Hsinchu and Hsinchu County will reach 38 C, while it will hit 36 C for three straight days in New Taipei and Tainan.
A yellow alert has been issued for Taoyuan, Miaoli County, Yunlin County, and Hualien County for a maximum daily temperature of 36 C.
The CWA predicts sporadic showers along Keelung's north coast, mountainous areas of Greater Taipei, the east, the south, and the Hengchun Peninsula. There may also be short afternoon thunderstorms in central and southern areas and mountainous regions in other parts of the country.
The CWA advised of strong wind gusts along coastal areas of Taiwan from New Taipei to Hsinchu, the Hengchun Peninsula, and Kinmen.
It also warned of large waves along the east coast, including Orchid Island and Green Island. The CWA advised the public to exercise caution when engaging in activities along the coast.
