TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — As per previous years, 500 citizens will be invited to attend the Double Ten Day celebration based on a lottery, Kuo Shu-jen (虢恕仁), director of the Double Ten Day office, said at a press conference on Tuesday (Sept. 3).
Registration for the draw will be open Sept. 5-12 for citizens ages 18 and above, with the winners announced on Sept. 20, Kuo said, per CNA. Notifications will be sent via text and email, followed by invitation cards and attendance passes.
Wu Tang-an (吳堂安), secretary-general of the Double Ten Day preparatory committee, said this year's festivities are themed, "Happy Birthday to the Republic of China." The celebration emphasizes unity and shared prosperity, Wu said.
The logo design uses the colors of the national flag, with blue symbolizing freedom and peace, and red representing patriotism, Wu said. The design represents Taiwan's diverse voices coming together under a spirit of patriotism to work towards a better future.
Aside from public attendance, diplomatic envoys and returning overseas Taiwanese will also be invited, Wu said. The Taipei city government plans to invite well-known performers, with ticket information to be announced later.
Double Ten Day marks the Wuchang Uprising on Oct. 10, 1911, which ultimately led to the collapse of the Qing Dynasty and the establishment of the Republic of China.
