TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Extreme high temperatures were felt across Taiwan on Saturday (Aug. 31), especially in the north where the mercury nudged 40 C in one district.
The Central Weather Administration issued heat warnings for most of Taiwan before 3 p.m. that indicate a maximum temperature of over 36 C is expected for three consecutive days. The administration said a high of 38 C was expected in New Taipei on Saturday, and CNA reported that the city’s Sanxia District topped that to reach 39.2 C by the afternoon.
Parts of greater Taipei and Pingtung recorded temperatures of over 37 C on Saturday. Highs of 36.5 C were measured in other parts of those areas, as well as in Taoyuan and Kaohsiung.
Weather administration data showed that just after 4 p.m., the temperature felt like 38 C across New Taipei and Taipei, and at least 36 C in all other cities and counties in Taiwan. The indication of what the temperature feels like to humans takes into account the humidity in the air as well as the temperature.
