TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The lawyer of former Taipei City Mayor Ko Wen-je (柯文哲), Cheng Shen-yuan (鄭深元), is to file for a habeas corpus court hearing after Ko was arrested Saturday (Aug. 31) following his refusal of a nighttime interrogation regarding the Core Pacific City development corruption case.
Cheng said that Ko was unable to undergo such late-hour questioning. Ko therefore asserted the right to refuse nighttime interrogation, per CNA.
The prosecutor said that Ko should not be allowed to leave, Cheng said. An arrest warrant was therefore issued on the spot.
A motion will be filed with the Taipei District Court to request a court hearing. A judge will determine the legality of the arrest.
Ko will be detained in a Taipei District Prosecutors Office detention cell until the hearing.
