TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA) reported Taiwan’s national internet penetration rate was about 87% in 2023, according to its digital usage survey.
In a press release published Wednesday (Aug. 28), the ministry said the household internet penetration rate was 90% in 2023. In terms of digital life satisfaction, citizens gave an average score of 7.1 out of 10, indicating a positive perception of the impact of digital technology on quality of life, per CNA.
The ministry said, according to its statistics, the percentage of citizens aged 12 and above who have accessed the internet increased from 64.4% in 2006 to 86.6% in 2020 and has exceeded 87% in the past two years.
The ministry explained before 2014, individual internet penetration rates were about nine to 11 percentage points lower than household internet penetration rates. This indicated that while households could access the internet, not every individual could go online, it said.
Additionally, the ministry said it is conducting its survey for this year and the results will be published later. It said such information will help the government formulate policies to enhance the nation’s digital competitiveness and literacy.
