TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan will take over leadership of the Association of Asian Election Authorities (AAEA) after hosting its general assembly, reports said Thursday (Aug. 29).
The Central Election Commission (CEC) represents Taiwan in the group, which will meet Sept. 10-14, per CNA. During the assembly, the CEC will be recognized as the new organization chair for 2024-2026, allowing it to raise Taiwan’s international visibility and spotlight its democratic achievements.
Diversity and tolerance are the main themes of the meeting, with the keywords Transparency, Accountability, Integrity, Well-being, Accessibility, and Neutrality chosen to form the country’s name.
The 20-member organization was formed in 1998 with the aim of exchanging information to promote open, free, and fair elections in the region. The group reports under the non-government International Foundation for Electoral Systems.
