TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Legislative leaders from the US states of Idaho, Wyoming, and Alaska visited the Ministry of Education (MOE) in the hope of intensifying relations with Taiwan, reports said Thursday (Aug. 29).
Deputy Education Minister Yeh Ping-cheng (葉丙成) welcomed the three-state delegation headed by Idaho Lieutenant Governor Scott Bedke and explained the most recent developments in Taiwan’s education circles, per CNA. The two sides exchanged views on the future direction of cooperation projects.
Taiwan and the United States launched a joint education initiative in 2020 promoting the teaching of Mandarin by Taiwanese teachers and the use of US teachers to help with efforts to achieve a bilingual society. The MOE signed 26 memorandums of understanding with 24 states, while cooperation with the Fulbright Foundation also led to more US education experts working in Taiwan.
Bedke and his delegation said they would assist with the promotion of bilateral education projects after returning home, according to the MOE.
