TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwanese artist Tuan Mu (段沐) has been invited to represent Taiwan at the first Durres International Biennale of Contemporary Art, which will take place Oct. 6 in Albania.
The biennial, themed "Artificial Intelligence: The Hybrid Future," is one of the most important art events in Southeast Europe. It has brought together 17 countries and 40 artists.
The National Pavilion of Taiwan is located at the Aleksander Moisiu Theater in the city center. The exhibition will showcase Tuan's keen insights into technology and culture, as well as reflect Taiwan's characteristics as a high-tech nation with cultural diversity and inclusiveness.
Tuan will showcase his work "Calligrapedia: A Universal Algorithm." It combines Chinese calligraphy with machine learning to explore the relationship between humans and artificial intelligence (AI).
According to Oltsen Gripshin, the curator and founder of the biennial, the rapid advancement of AI raises profound philosophical and ontological questions. Its ability to think, learn, and even simulate emotions challenges our traditional understanding of what it means to be human.
Participating countries include Albania, Turkey, the US, Finland, Ivory Coast, Germany, Italy, North Macedonia, the Dominican Republic, Peru, Sweden, Switzerland, Argentina, Taiwan, Kosovo, China, and Romania. It features renowned artists such as Valerie Oka, Gregory de la Haba, and Ryan Koopmans.
