TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Police have arrested a man after the director of a neighborhood temple was shot in Taichung on Saturday (Aug. 24) amid a suspected financial dispute.
Taichung police said that just before 1 p.m. a man surnamed Chang (張) fired eight rounds at a man who is the head of a temple where the incident occurred, per CNA. They said two of the shots hit the man in his leg, and he was sent to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police said Chang, who is 27, fled the temple on Yongfu Road in Xitun District after the shooting, and was arrested less than an hour later. Chang reportedly said the temple director owed him nearly NT$3 million (US$94,300), though police are currently conducting an investigation to confirm the cause of the incident.
Chang was arrested with two modified firearms and 13 bullets, police said. He is being investigated for attempted murder, and for breaking firearm control laws.
