TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Thailand customs discovered 30.5 kilograms of methamphetamine hidden inside a shipment bound for Taiwan on Wednesday (Aug. 21), according to a local report.
The Bangkok Post reported Saturday (Aug. 24) that the methamphetamine was seized at Bangkok Port and was worth an estimated NT$28.6 million (US$899,254). A spokesperson for Thai customs said that it was found in two boxes of cement animal sculptures.
Photos posted by Thai customs on Facebook show maneki-neko (beckoning cat) sculptures in which some of the methamphetamine shipment was hidden. Customs said the intercepted shipment was declared as containing cement ware cats, giraffes, deer, goats, and fountains.
