TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan will continue to advance its relations with democratic allies, Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) said on Wednesday (Aug. 21).
Lin said in a Facebook post that the world is going through an era of extreme uncertainty, stemming from the impacts of the pandemic and the expansion of authoritarian regimes. These events disrupt global security and the world economic order, he said. “Peace is not a given; it requires the steadfast defense of our democratic alliance partners.”
Since taking office in May, Lin said he has implemented a comprehensive diplomatic strategy based on democracy, peace, and prosperity. “This aims to leverage Taiwan's economic and technological strengths to foster the prosperity of its allies and like-minded nations,” he said.
Taiwan's prowess in AI technology and semiconductor industries can serve as a valuable asset for international exchanges and strengthening global relationships, Lin said. Economic cooperation is also a crucial facet for Taiwan in addressing shared security challenges, he said.
Taiwan will continue contributing its services and smart solutions to strengthen and elevate its alliances, he added.
The nation's security is intertwined with Indo-Pacific and global peace and stability, Lin said. “Taiwan holds both the responsibility and the determination to uphold its commitment to democracy,” he said.
