TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) said Thursday (Aug. 22) the government plans to invest NT$900 billion (US$28.1 billion) by 2030 to promote green energy policies.
According to a Cabinet press release on Thursday, Cho chaired the 36th meeting of the National Council for Sustainable Development. The premier also announced the government has allocated NT$116.1 billion for the 2025 fiscal year to achieve its 2050 net-zero emissions goal.
Cho said the government will use three major strategies to drive sustainable development. First, on a national level, the Presidential Office and Cabinet will focus on promoting sustainable development goals.
Second, the newly established National Climate Change Response Committee will serve as a platform for public participation and policy effectiveness, Cho said.
Finally, the National Council for Sustainable Development will help coordinate and integrate sustainable development policies, he added.
Cho said the Ministry of the Interior took the lead in energy conservation and carbon reduction from its social housing program, which requires buildings to obtain a green label, per Liberty Times.
Cho called on all ministries and local governments to implement the National Climate Change Adaptation Action Plan 2023-2026 and said future budget allocations should prioritize the funding for a safe and resilient Taiwan.
