TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Semiconductor company Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD) has chosen Tainan and Kaohsiung as the locations for new R&D centers, Economics Minister Kuo Jyh-huei (郭智輝) confirmed Wednesday (Aug. 21).
He was speaking after receiving an AMD delegation headed by Senior Vice President of GPU Technologies and Engineering David Wang (王啟尚), per Radio Taiwan International. The group wanted to thank the Ministry of Economic Affairs, adding they would cooperate with Taiwan’s universities and businesses to achieve the best-possible potential for the new facilities.
Kuo thanked the California-based company for supporting Taiwan and for cooperating with the country’s technology sector. In addition, the minister emphasized plans to train local and international AI talent.
AMD’s Taiwanese-born chair, Lisa Su (蘇姿丰), most recently visited Taiwan in June to attend Computex Taipei.
