TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Yehliu Visitor Center is hosting an exhibition on bonfire fishing, a centuries-old Taiwanese tradition, from Aug. 9-30, the Tourism Administration said.
The exhibition opens from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bilingual tours are offered on weekends, per the Tourism Administration.
Bonfire fishing is a traditional technique where fishermen light torches to attract fish. The exhibition shows the history, culture, and equipment used in the fishing method, which is an intangible Taiwanese cultural heritage.
Visitors can take boat tours to experience the practice firsthand. Boat tours include experiencing the north coast's night fishing display, exploring Huanggang Fishing Village, and hiking the Jinbaoli Trail (Fishermen's Trail).
The North Coast and Guanyinshan National Scenic Area Headquarters aims to raise awareness of this unique fishing method. It hopes to preserve the tradition through the exhibition and guided tours.
