TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Sweden’s new representative to Taiwan, Helena Reitberger, has announced the start of her new role.
Reitberger said in a Facebook post that her arrival comes “at a very exciting time” as there are many areas for deeper cooperation between the two countries, including green transition and digital technology.
“I look forward to playing my part, along with the excellent team at the office, as we continue this journey together!” she said.
Reitberger said she previously worked at the Swedish Trade Office in Taipei around 20 years ago and has visited the city a few times since then. She said one of her favorite places in Taipei is Elephant Mountain because of “the lush green vegetation” and “the magnificent view of the city from the highest point.”
The diplomat also thanked the former representative, Anders Wollter, for his “excellent work” in facilitating Sweden-Taiwan ties.
Last year, two Swedish parliamentary delegations visited Taiwan within three months for talks with high-level Taiwanese officials. After a general election in October, the new prime minister, Ulf Kristersson, expressed concern over peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and opposed China's use of military threats for the first time.
