TAIPEI (Taiwan News)— Taiwan ranked second among Japanese tourists’ favorite summer travel destinations, according to the travel booking platform Klook.
Klook released the results of its "2024 Summer Travel Trend Survey” on Thursday (Aug. 15), which surveyed 4,000 Japanese tourists in July, per CNA. Taiwan was ranked as the second-most favored travel destination, behind South Korea.
The main reason why Japanese tourists like to travel to Taiwan is the short distance, according to Klook. The flight time is only three hours.
Japanese survey respondents also cited the local food, scenery, public security, developed railway transportation, and friendly relations between Taiwan and Japan as reasons they enjoy traveling in Taiwan.
South Korea was most attractive to Japanese tourists because of its short flight distance, and the influence of K-pop entertainment culture, Klook said. Thailand and Vietnam ranked third and fourth, respectively.
In addition, Klook found that “Taiwan the Lucky Land,” a lucky draw and prize redemption, was an important factor attracting tourists to Taiwan. Tourists can win NT$5,000 to spend in Taiwan upon arrival, and the highest proportion of winners have come from Japan and South Korea, Klook said.
Most overseas tourists in Taiwan book accommodation in Taipei, according to Klook. However, Taichung and Tainan are also gaining favor.
