TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) lauded the common values between Taiwan and the United States on Tuesday (Aug. 13).
Taiwan and the US both cherish democracy and freedom, Lin said at a banquet he hosted for US Representative Marilyn Strickland and her delegation Tuesday evening. Lin pointed out in a Facebook post that Taiwan has promoted the Global Cooperation and Training Framework with the US, and other partners, which continues to expand, bringing together more countries to address global issues.
Lin thanked the delegation members for their long-term support of Taiwan. They have consistently backed Taiwan’s participation in international affairs through various proposals and messages, he said.
The foreign minister hoped double taxation between the two nations could be resolved soon. He pointed to the passage of the U.S.-Taiwan Expedited Double-Tax Relief Act by the US House of Representatives and said it would further enhance two-way investment and industrial cooperation.
Lin said Taiwan and the US will continue to deepen economic cooperation and work together to safeguard global democracy and freedom.
The delegation is on a five-day trip to Taiwan for talks on bilateral relations and regional security with high-level Taiwanese officials. The foreign ministry called the visit “a demonstration of US Congress's steadfast support for Taiwan and the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait.”
