TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Olympic gold medal boxer Lin Yu-ting (林郁婷) will serve as Taiwan's anti-bullying ambassador and a university assistant professor.
Upon Lin's triumphant return to Taiwan on Tuesday (Aug. 13), the Ministry of Education's Sports Administration said she will serve as an ambassador to help promote a national anti-bullying campaign, per China Times. In the coming semester, Lin will also serve as an assistant professor at Chinese Culture University’s Department of Physical Education, where she will teach boxing and specialized sports training.
Wang Tzu-chi (王子奇), the university's president, said Lin's gold medal is Taiwan’s first Olympic boxing gold medal and that she is the fifth Olympic medalist from the university. Wang said she joined the faculty in the Department of Physical Education and will begin her doctoral studies in August.
Lin, who has progressed from undergraduate to master's studies and is now a doctoral student, is a full-time assistant professor in the Department of Physical Education. Her initial qualification was based on her gold medal at the Asian Games in Hangzhou last year.
With her Olympic gold medal, she could be promoted to associate professor as early as the next academic year. The university also plans to support her continued participation in competitions as an athlete.
The university also mentioned Lin has collaborated with New Taipei Municipal Yingge Junior High School and New Taipei Municipal Yingge Vocational High School for many years to nurture boxing talent. With Lin's addition, the university will strengthen its partnership with these schools, hoping to cultivate more outstanding Taiwanese boxers.
