TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Taipei Economic and Cultural Center in India (TECC) awarded the Huayu Enrichment Scholarship and Taiwan Scholarship to over 100 Indian students on Monday (Aug. 5).
The Huayu Enrichment Scholarship, which supports students pursuing Mandarin Chinese courses in Taiwan, was awarded to 92 students. An additional 44 students were given Taiwan Scholarships, which fund university-level study.
Taiwan representative to India Baushuan Ger (葛葆萱) presented the scholarships to the students at a ceremony in New Delhi, per CNA. He said he hopes the students can become a “bridge for exchanges” between Taiwan and India.
Ge said Indian students have shown increasing interest in studying in Taiwan, whether to pursue higher education or learn Chinese. Both scholarships each received more than 200 applications this year.
The TECC reported that 3,000 Indians are studying in Taiwan. More than 500 of these students were awarded government-funded scholarships over the last 10 years, it added.
The scholarship recipients thanked Taiwan’s Ministry of Education for the opportunity to study in Taiwan. Ph.D candidate at Jawaharlal Nehru University Sugandha Tandon, spoke of the importance of Chinese language studies in her research requirements.
High school graduate Krishna Anoop said she was excited to study artificial intelligence-related subjects in Taiwan. She said it was an ideal environment for international students due to its safety, convenience, low tuition fees, and diverse culture.
