TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) praised close Taiwan-US relations during a meeting with the new American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) Director-General, Raymond Greene, on Tuesday (Aug. 7).
Greene visited Tainan on Tuesday, marking his first trip outside Taipei, according to the Tainan City Government. Huang said Greene’s return to Taiwan symbolizes his deep connection with the nation.
The mayor said Tainan is actively enhancing exchanges with the US through city diplomacy, including forming sister-city ties and attracting American businesses to invest in Tainan. Huang said he looked forward to continuing cooperation with AIT to deepen Taiwan-US relations.
In their meeting, Huang and Greene emphasized the deep friendship between the two countries and expressed eagerness for more cooperation between Tainan and AIT in the future. They also discussed the blueprint for bilateral cooperation over the next three years.
This is Greene's third posting in Taiwan, having served as the deputy chief of AIT's political section from 2002 to 2005 and as AIT deputy director from 2018 to 2021. Greene assumed his role as director in July.
