TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Guatemala’s Vice Foreign Minister Julio Eduardo Orozco Perez landed in Taiwan on Monday (Aug. 5) for a five-day visit at the invitation of Taiwan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA).
During his stay, Orozco will meet with Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) and Deputy Minister Remus Chen (陳立國), according to MOFA. He will visit the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration's Taiwan office. This is Orozco’s first trip to Taiwan since he became vice foreign minister in January.
Orozco is also scheduled to attend the Asia-Pacific Exposition for Sustainability opening ceremony. This visit will provide the vice minister an opportunity to gain a firsthand understanding of Taiwan’s industrial development and enhance awareness of Guatemala's investment environment among various sectors in Taiwan, MOFA said.
Orozco previously served as the economic counselor at the Guatemalan Embassy in the United States and the director of Sustainable Tourism at the Association of Caribbean States.
“Taiwan and Guatemala have enjoyed a close and friendly relationship for over 90 years,” MOFA said. The two countries have long cooperated in various areas, yielding significant achievements, it added.
Last month, a delegation of Guatemalan lawmakers visited Taiwan to meet with President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) and other high-level government officials. The group also visited the Legislative Yuan and the Ministry of Health and Welfare during their five-day trip.
