TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A section of the Tainan Judicial Museum’s ceiling collapsed on Wednesday (July 31).
Tainan District Court issued a press release Wednesday saying the ceiling in front of the model room collapsed at about 4:50 p.m. for unknown reasons. The museum, built in 1912, is located on Section 1, Fuqian Road, West Central District.
The court said as it was near closing time, most visitors had already left the museum, and there were no injuries, per CNA. One museum visitor can be seen running away seconds before the collapse in a video.
Following the collapse, security personnel and volunteers guided the remaining visitors away from the area and out of the building. They cordoned off the site for safety, the court reported.
The court said the Ministry of Culture’s (MOC) Bureau of Cultural Heritage has been notified to assess damages and the museum will close for inspection.
