TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwanese boxer Wu Shih-yi (吳詩儀) is set to win Taiwan’s first medal at the Paris Olympics after her advancement in the quarterfinals on Thursday (July 31).
Wu, 26, was victorious in the women's 60 kg lightweight division quarterfinals, per CNA. Her advancement to the top four guarantees that she will win at least a bronze medal, as there is no bronze medal match in boxing.
Her advancement means that Team Taiwan will come home with at least one medal from the games this year.
This is Wu’s second appearance on the Olympic stage. She reached the top 16 at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.
Next, she will face China’s Yang Wenlu (楊文璐), the gold medalist at the Hangzhou Asian Games. The two last faced off in 2023, when Wu lost to Yang in the semifinals and won bronze.
