TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan projects expenditures to exceed NT$3 trillion (US$91.3 billion) in 2025 with revenues not far behind, according to informed sources.
Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) held the 2025 annual plan and budget meeting on Monday (July 29), per CNA. Reports suggest the defense budget will be around NT$460 billion.
Cabinet Spokesperson Chen Shi-kai (陳世凱) said the highest increase in budget allocation is for public construction projects, per UDN. This aims to improve road traffic, enhance pedestrian safety, and promote the electrification of public transport vehicles, he said.
Chen explained that the budgets for science and technology development projects, as well as general subsidies from the central government to local governments, have increased compared to the current year’s budget. This strengthens the capacity for central and local collaboration on construction projects, he added.
Expenditures for social welfare, education, and countermeasures for low birth rates have also increased, showing the government’s ongoing commitment to improving public welfare, Chen added.
Chen emphasized Monday’s meeting provided a preliminary review of 2025’s budget. After the Cabinet’s approval, a press conference will be held to explain matters to the public, he said.
