TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Taiwan will give buyers of airline and high speed rail tickets extra free tickets to reach the 10 million visitors target this year, reports said Tuesday (July 30).
Taiwan has welcomed 4.3 million visitors so far in 2024. The Tourism Administration will introduce “buy three, get one free” and “buy two, get one free” programs for airline tickets and a “buy one, get one free” formula for high speed trains, Transportation Minister Li Men-yen (李孟諺) told the media.
He acknowledged that last week’s Typhoon Gaemi and the April 3 earthquake in Hualien County had left a negative impact on visitor numbers, per CNA. The reduced accessibility of Hualien’s Taroko Gorge following the quake and of the Alishan Forest Railway in Chiayi County might have persuaded some travelers to cancel their plans to visit Taiwan, according to Li.
The Tourism Administration will announce new spokespersons for Taiwan tourism in Japan and South Korea, the minister said, while it would launch airplane ticket promotions in select markets in cooperation with Taiwanese airlines.
The introduction will take place in August. This winter, Taiwan will promote golf packages and out-of-school classes, Li said.
