TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Typhoon Gaemi caused eight deaths, the disappearance of one person and 866 injuries as of 8 p.m. on Friday (July 26), according to Taiwan’s Central Emergency Operation Center.
A new death was reported in Chiayi. The highest number of casualties are in Kaohsiung, Tainan, and Taichung, per CNA.
The Central Emergency Operation Center pointed out that four incidents were not included in the typhoon-related casualty statistics. Local governments have determined that they are not directly related to the typhoon.
The missing person is a 67-year-old man surnamed Kuo (郭), believed to have fallen into a drainage culvert on Taiwan Provincial Highway 3 in Fanlu, Chiayi. Due to darkness, the search and rescue operation is continuing Saturday (July 27).

- Falling rock, 58-year-old male supervisor at Alishan Forest Railway Garage Park (Chiayi)
- Fallen tree, 64-year-old female motorcyclist (Kaohsiung)
- Falling object (roof), 44-year-old woman (Hualien)
- Mudslide,78-year-old man (Kaohsiung)
- Fall during repairs (home), 65-year-old man (Tainan)
- Motorcycle accident (tree branch), 75-year-old man (Yunlin)
- Found dead (residence), 54-year-old woman (Chiayi)
- Unidentified body, (Chiayi)

- Car accident fatality (Penghu)
- Drowning (fishpond, Kaohsiung)
