TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Water Resources Agency (WRA) said Taiwan received approximately 210 million tons of rainwater from Typhoon Gaimei as of 7 a.m on Thursday (July 25).
WRA fugures show northern reservoirs received the most rainfall at an estimated 133.3 million tons, per CNA. Shihmen and Feitsui Reservoirs received 18 million and 8 million tons, respectively.
Central reservoirs received 58.3 million tons, with Deji and Liyutan Reservoirs receiving 25 million and 11 million tons, while Sun Moon Lake and Wushe Reservoirs collectively gained 9.2. In the south, the jointly operated Zengwen and Wushantou Reservoirs received 18.6 million tons.
The agency said, as of 6 a.m., the storage rates across Taiwan are as follows: Xingshan Reservoir is at 84.90%, Feitsui Reservoir at 64.68%, Shimen Reservoir at 57.21%, and Baoshan Second Reservoir at 84.44%. Liyutan, Deji, and Sun Moon Lake Reservoirs have storage rates of 97.80%, 79.87%, and 98.12% respectively.
Wushantou Reservoir's storage rate is 80.40%, Zengwen Reservoir at 51.78%, and Nanhua Reservoir at 100%.
The WRA reported that of the 210 million tons of rainwater, 46.49 million tons has been stored. The remainder is expected to be stored in the next few days, it added.
