TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Ministry of Foreign Affairs debuted a short film on July 17 to promote Taiwanese athletes’ participation in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
The video “Taiwan: Win Over the World” by the Chinese Taipei Olympic Committee (中華奧會) was shared with the caption, “On the occasion of the #ParisOlympics, we’re ready to show the world that our little island has a whole lot of willpower!”
The film features athletes in training for competition, with the words, “The will to give it all, the will to embrace passion, the will to stay cool under pressure, the will to evolve and, most importantly, the will to win over the world!”
This year, 60 athletes will represent Taiwan, including 26 males and 34 females in 16 sporting events: athletics, archery, badminton, boxing, breaking, canoeing, fencing, golf, gymnastics, judo, shooting, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, and weightlifting. The athletes will also be supported for the first time by a 30-member sports science team.
Taiwan Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) was briefed on Team Taiwan’s preparations on July 11. He personally sent off the first group of five athletes on their flight to Paris on July 19.
The 2024 Summer Olympics will run from July 26 to Aug. 11. Taiwan saw a record performance at the last Olympics in Tokyo, where they won 12 medals, including two golds, four silvers, and six bronzes in 10 sports.
Taiwanese athletes must compete under the name “Chinese Taipei.” Taiwan's national flag and anthem are barred by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
