TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Alishan National Forest Recreation Area and ten other national parks will be closed on Wednesday (July 24) when Typhoon Gaemi is expected to impact Taiwan.
The forestry agency’s Chiayi branch said Alishan is within the Central Weather Administration’s land warning area for the approaching typhoon, and it will be closed on Wednesday, per CNA. It said the park’s reopening time will depend on weather conditions over the coming days.
People are advised to avoid mountainous areas in Chiayi County during the typhoon. The main line of the Alishan Forest Railway will also be closed on Wednesday and Thursday (July 25).
In addition to Alishan, Wednesday’s national park closures will include:
- Dongyanshan National Forest Recreation Area
- Guanwu National Forest Recreation Area
- Lalashan National Forest Recreation Area
- Daxueshan National Forest Recreation Area
- Baxianshan National Forest Recreation Area
- Hehuanshan National Forest Recreation Area
- Wuling National Forest Recreation Area
- Tengjhij National Forest Recreation Area
- Shuangliu National Forest Recreation Area
- Kenting National Park
